I suspect most of you have a good working knowledge so I won't bore you with the details. I use MusicMatch Jukebox. I like using VBR with a setting of 50%. It will use anything from 96 to 160 bps, and the file size is the same as 128bps. I could hear the compression while using 128bps only...kind of a harsh low fidelity sound. (noticeable even while driving the diesel) I get about 5 megs per song using the VBR, currently I have 650 songs on the laptop drive. Until I make the move to a Single board computer or old motherboard, I experiment with the laptop. The only plugin I am using right now is the Lorty display driver. I (again for testing purposes) have about 12 feet of parallel cable driving the LCD. It works with no garbage, but I can tell the display is lagging behind a bit. The only problem with the setup is the Lorty plugin needs its little box highlighted (in focus) to use most of the keypad. With the moving map software, that is a hassle. I have used it with my RF remote that came with the X10 wireless video TX/RC setup. That worked great mostly, but I had to use the 'Boom' software to drive the remote, and 'Winamp controller (wac.exe)' to get the 'Boom' software to run Winamp. Note: the WAC link seems to be bad, but thats the one in the program. |
